Artist’s Statement
The paintings in this show are memories of places I have painted. I find that certain subjects occupy my thoughts well beyond the time spent painting them on location. Discoveries I make during the plein aire process are the inspiration, the raw material for new images. They are preliminary studies for the major works. I extract and combine various impressions from different paintings of the same subject. Then comes the search for the color structure, patterns of movement, an invented perspective, and the dynamic voice of the paint itself. The intent of the reconstructing process is to make a more meaningful, timeless art expression.
Images in the show represent the Oregon coast, the northern coast of Brittany, and the Morbihan region of southern Brittany.
